Why grind a stump
A stump left in the ground will host fungi, attract termites and carpenter ants, send up suckers from the root collar for years, and make it impossible to mow, replant, or build over the spot. Grinding removes it cleanly — below grade — so the soil is yours again.
We grind down to 6–12 inches below the surface, which is enough for grass, garden beds, or new landscaping. If you’re planning to plant a replacement tree in the exact same spot or pour concrete over it, we grind deeper or extract the root ball — tell us up front.
What you get
- Stump ground below grade
- Grindings (chips + soil) raked into the hole, mounded slightly (it settles)
- Surface debris cleaned up
- Optional haul-off of grindings if you don’t want them as mulch
Sizes we handle
From dooryard ornamentals to mature oaks. Larger stumps just take more time — pricing is by diameter and accessibility. Hard-to-reach stumps (slope, fence, tight gates) cost more than ones we can roll the grinder right up to. Honest quote up front, no surprises after.
